Kyla had an absolute blast at the Alaska State fair! It was a beautiful, sunny and warm day, perfect fair weather! We were expecting rain so we dressed in warm clothes and brought rain clothes and instead ended up taking off layers and wishing we had sunglasses with us. This was the third year in a row that Kyla has been to the Alaska State Fair, but the first time that she has been able to go on the rides and really enjoy everything that is going on there. We ended up spending a full 8 hour day at the fair and it was so fun!

We first went and found the ponies and Kyla got to go on a pony ride, she had been talking about going on a pony ride for nearly a week! She had a great time on the pony rides and was even able to ride them without us being by her side since they had a harness belt on the saddle.

After her pony ride, we walked around to all of the booths and got Kyla's face painted. Kyla choose to have a unicorn painted on her face. She did really well sitting still as the lady painted her cheek. She started to cry a little but was fine once I got down by her and the lady gave her a mirror to watch her paint in. The unicorn turned out very cute and it lasted the entire day.

Next we headed to the rides!!! We did two shifts of rides, first before a nap and again after. She loved the rides! We took her on four different rides, all twice. She seemed so grown up going on the rides all by herself. She went on a flying dumbo ride, a helicopter ride, a car ride and a really big and fast slide. She loved each ride and did not want to get off them when they were over. The rides were pretty limited that she could go on, we pretended she was 36 inches tall so she could go on the ones she went on, Many of the rides they even had to be 42 inches tall to ride. Kyla was such a happy girl going on rides.

While Kyla took a nap in her stroller, Jon, my mom and I went and looked at all the stuff that Kyla would not have been too interested in like the arts and crafts, photography and giant vegetables.

After Kyla's nap we went and looked at all the farm animals. Kyla got to pet a baby bunny and baby chicks and loved it, they were so cute! She also went into the petting zoo and got to pet and feed goats, sheep, cows and pigs. We bought plenty of food to give them and Kyla did not want to leave. We also went into the Alaska Sealife Centers exhibit where she was able to touch starfish.

It was such a great day and it was so fun for her to get to do so many neat things in one day. And of course it would not be the fair without plenty of junk food! Kyla got to have a corndog, freshly made potato chips with cheese sauce, part of a snowcone, a little cotton candy and a m & m cookie! Jon also bought her a huge sucker to take home to have another day. Kyla saw a girl carrying a blow up Dora doll as we entered the fair, so we went and bought her one and she was so funny, she held the stick it came on and had Dora walking next to her.

It was so fun to see Kyla have such a great time at the fair and we look forward to another great fair day next year!

Little Artist

Kyla Loves Foam Stickers!

Busy with her markers!

Smile!!!

Little Painter!

Kyla has been enjoying doing art projects very much lately. She loves to paint pictures with watercolors, draw with markers and crayons, color with chalk on her chalkboard and on sidewalks and put stickers on EVERYTHING!!! She really likes playing with foam stickers and for some reason calls them choo choo stickers. She is a good little artist and is becoming pretty detailed on her pictures, she does not like to leave much of the page uncolored and is trying hard to only color the part of the picture that she is looking at in a coloring book. It is great to see her so interested in art and it really keeps her happy and busy.

2 year Doctors Appointment

Kyla had her two year well child appointment today and as the doctor said is "perfect"! She was so funny at the doctors office. She had a blast in the waiting room looking at all the fish in the aquarium. Then once we were in the doctors office and done with her pre-examination with the nurse she kept saying we were at the "Doctors House", I would say no we at are the hospital and she would try her best to say hospital and then seconds later say doctors house. She also kept hiding behind the door saying "peek a boo Doctor" and running out in to the hallway saying "Come Doctor", not the most patient kid! However, once the Doctor came in Kyla was very shy. He did all of the regular examinations and everything was great. Her weight was 26.5 pounds which is 50th percentille and her height was 34 inches which was about 75th percentille. I kind of thought her height would have been even a higher percentille because everyone always comments on how tall she is.

The Doctor was a great pediatrician, this was our first appointment with him but I had two friend referrals and met him once at a childrens fair. He answered all the questions that I had for him and does not ask all the dumb questions that my pediatrician in Park City would ask like "Is she in a carseat"....

I had a few concerns that I brought up with the Doctor about Kyla. She has had two little bumps on her arm that have now spread to her belly that have been there for a couple months. I assumed they were warts and had him take a look at them, it turned out it was not warts but Molluscum Contagioussum. It is a skin virus, similar to warts, and shour go away on its own with not treatment within a few months. I also brought up Kyla always complaining on her tummy hurting, but he said he was not too concerned and that at this age they are just very sensitive of feeling their intestines moving and that is probably all it is. My last concern I had was when last week she had bad pain in her arm and just held it with her other hand for about 24 hours and then was suddenly perfect. He said he was almost 100% certain she had a dislocated elbow and then she on her own somehow got it back into place. I was happy that all of my concerns about her turned out to be nothing serious.

Kyla did have to get 1 shot at her appointment, just her second dose of Hepatitis A. She screamed a lot when she got it, but calmed down within minutes and was sound asleep as soon as I got her in her carseat. We do have to go back in October to get her the flu shot, but then as long as she stays healthy she does not have to go back until she turns 3.

Beluga Whales in the Inlet

Time for S'mores!

Kyla, Jon and I took a weekend trip to the Kenai River to go silver salmon fishing with my Mom, Steve and his parents. On the way down to the river I stopped along the inlet and saw a huge pod of beluga whales swimming, it was really neat to watch them coming in with the tide. We had great sunny weather finally after a record 30 days in a row of rain. We had a good time hanging out at the campground, having campfires and s'mores, visiting with family and fishing. Unfortunatley the fishing was not very good at all. We only had a few bites after many hours of fishing from the boat and dock. Jon caught a really big and ugly humpy which we threw back but still bragged about. Soon after I was on the dock and Grandma took a quick break to go up to the campground and left her pole in the water and she got a bite. I ended up reeling in a nice silver salmon on her pole and it ended up being the only one Silver Samlon we caught all weekend. We really like the campground we stayed at in the motorhome, which is where my family has stayed during their fishing trips for the past 7 years. We ended up booking a cabin there for when we go red salmon fishing next July.

Kyla enjoyed being out in the boat. The first time we went out in we were out for hours and she just played, ate and watched us fish, she was very good. She even got to drive the boat with both Grandma and Grandpa. We ended up going in circles, but she had fun! The next day she ended up falling asleep as soon as we started to drive the boat to where we were going to fish and did not wake up until we were done fishing. She woke up in pain screaming that her arm hurt and srceamed and cried more than I think she ever has. She held her hurt arm from 3 pm on saturday until the next morning and then suddenly just when I was about to take her to see the pediatrician the pain went away and she was fine. I have no idea what was the matter, but I know that it hurt her really bad! I am glad that she is better and than we did not have to go get x-rays or anything. Next week is her 2 year doctors appointment and I would have hated to have 2 doctor appointments for her in 1 week.
