1 year old doctor appointment

Kyla had her 12 month appointment today. It turned out to be her most tramatic appointment so far. She was in daycare during the day and decided not to take a nap. She thought it was fun that other kids were in the same room trying to nap and did her best to keep them all up too. She had the 1 year olds jumping in their cribs and the babies crying. As soon as she was taken out of the room everyone crashed. So, going into the appointment I knew it would not be fun for her. Kyla has some sort of an infection and as a result has a very swollen lymph node on the back of her head. The Doctor and I did are best to try to make Kyla hold still while she listened to her heart, looked at her ears, eyes... But when it came to getting a better look at her ear to check for an ear infection an additional nurse had to be called in to restrain her. Kyla was soooooo mad and cried harder then I have ever heard her cry. After this it was time for 2 shots and a hemoglobin test where they prick her foot.

As far as her height and weight, she continues to be tall and skinny. Her height was 29 3/4 inches which put her in the 80th percentile. Her weight was 19 pounds and 9 ounces, which is the 30th percentile.

Kyla has just gone to bed for the night and I have a feeling she will have a very good night of sleep after her awful day at her Doctor Appointment.

Wow, what an amazing year this past year has been!!! From the minute Kyla was born we have had so much love for Kyla and have been so amazed to watch everything that she has done. I can still remember the night she was born, holding her in amazement that she was just so beautiful and perfect. Jon and I were happy just staring at her as she would sleep. It is so wonderful to watch how she has changed and developed since those early days. We knew based on Kyla's weight and that she was holding her head up on her own as soon as she born, that she would be a strong determined little girl. It was so exciting to watch every new skill that Kyla has learned in this year. We can easily recall the first smile, the first laugh, the first time she rolled over, stood up, crawled, walked... and cannot wait to see her learn even more new skills. We fill so lucky and proud to have such a beautiful and happy daughter.

Kyla's first year has been full of fun and excitment. She has taken 10 vacations, going to Alaska, California, Hawaii, Washington and Mexico. She has made a lot of new friends at daycare, her favorite being all of the older 1-3 year old boys. She has spent time outside going for walks, hikes, boatrides, lounging at the beach and pool and so much more. Jon and I are so excited that she enjoys doing many of the activities that we like to do. And now Jon is just hoping that she will also enjoy skiing someday soon :)

At 1 year of age Kylas favorite activities/toys are anything water related (water table, pool, wading table, hot tub, lake, pond...), stacking toys (cups, bowls, boxes), books (esspecially touch and feel animal books), being outside, playing with tuperware and baby dishes in the cabinets and drawers and getting into trouble (removing plug covers and getting into things that she cannot have). Kyla also loves her cat Bam Bam. Kyla will follow him everywhere, pull his hair and tail, cuddle with him, lay on top of him and just cannot leave him alone. It is amazing how much he likes her and lets her do what ever she wants to him. He was never a very friendly cat, but has a very sweet personality when Kyla is around.

We are constantly amazed by how much energy that Kyla has. She is constantly going, she cannot just sit and play with a toy she just needs to be on the go. Even when Kyla is having a bottle, getting a diaper change or falling asleep she cannot hold still. The only child we can think of that has more energy is her cousin Jake.

In the past month Kyla has got her first four teeth in. She has began running a lot. She has learned how to climb onto the couch. She is also working even harder on talking. Before Kyla was saying MaMa, DaDa and BaBa. Now Kyla is starting to say Cat, Duck and trying hard to repeat other words that she hears often. We can't wait to hear her learn more words.

Whenever we go anywhere with Kyla we always recieve many compliments about what a beautiful baby she is. Almost everywhere we go we hear comments on her big beautiful blue eyes. We also always hear that she is cute enough to be the gerber baby model. We agree that we have the most beautiful baby and are so proud to be her parents!!! This past year has brought us more joy then we could have ever imagined and we look forward to the years to come!!!

Jessica & Rhetts Wedding

Bridal Party posing for pictures!

All the girls at the Bachelorette Party!

Jessica and I at the Rehersal Dinner (check out Kyla behind us climbing in the dog house!)

In Alaska I attended one of my best friends from highschools wedding. I was one of her bridesmaids and was busy Wednesday-Friday with wedding events. On Wednesday we had her bachelorette party, we hung out at a friends house, had dinner and drove a limo bus around town stopping at different lookouts and a couple bars for only a few minutes each. It was a lot of fun to see some old friends. My mom watched Kyla for the night.

The next night was the rehersal dinner. After the rehersal at the church we went to her fiance's parents house for a great catered dinner on the bluff overlooking the inlet.

On Friday was the big day, we met at 10 am at the spa to hang out, have lunch and mimosas and have are hair, nails and makeup done. It was fun hanging out with the girls before the wedding. After pictures we went to the church for the 6 pm wedding. The ceremony was nice and short. Afterwards we went to the Alaska Heritage Center for the reception. It was a fun reception at a beautiful place. It was so nice to see Jessica and Rhett so happy in love.

Enjoying the beautiful Mountains in Alaska

Too Cute!

We just returned from another vacation to Alaska. We enjoyed our trip and spend a lot of time with my mom. Kyla really enjoyed playing with Grandma and running around her yard. We had beautiful weather while I was there so we were able to spend a lot of time outdoors. While Jon was there we went to Hatcher Pass to walk around in the mountains and go sightseeing. Kyla enjoyed playing in the hot tub, sprinkler, bird bath and wanted to play in the bird pond at my moms house. She just gets so excited to play in water. We also went to potters marsh to see wildlife, but ended up only seeing ducks and some eagles, no moose or bears. Kyla also had her first trip to the zoo, which in Alaska in mainly bears, birds and other alaskan wildlife. Kyla loved seeing the black bears, polar bears, and grizzly bears. After staying at Grandmas house where they have two large stuffed bears and a Bear rug (which are all real bears), Kyla has decided that she really enjoys bears.

In Alaska we celebrated Kyla's birthday a little early with some family. We had a bar-b-que and had a cake that Kyla was not too excited about. This will be the first of three small parties she will have. We will celebrate her birthday here on her actual birthday and then celebrate a little later in Seattle with Jon's family. we really enjoyed our trip to Alaska and are really hoping to move there soon.

Pretty 4th of July dress

Having fun with Grandma at the 4th of July Parade

Enjoying the floats!

Kyla celebrated her first fourth of July in Alaska. In the morning we went to the parade downtown. Kyla enjoyed a few of the floats that played music and the soldiers chanting, but overall she was not too impressed. We will see if she enjoys the parade here in Park City next week to celebate Pioneer Day. After the parade we went to the downtown arts and farmers market to walk around. Fireworks were not until midnight, but even then in was still too light out to see them.
